Preparatory Class Field Trip

See this picture? This is me keeping my 5 year old entertained within the first 15 minutes of this trip. 25 adults and 25 kids under the age of 7... I think the adults were very out-numbered.

I packed enough food, clothes and entertainment stuff for a two-day trip. I felt I over did it but when we got in the bus and I saw the stuff the other moms brought, I felt I didn't prepare enough. Ok lang, I thought, anything we need that I didn't bring, we can get on the way.

We were to go to three places-the Bio Research Center, the SM North 3D Theater and the La Mesa Eco Park. This is going to be a very long day.

As expected, we arrived late for the first stop, there was a long line going in and there was a lot of children running around the place. I thought we would be going to a place that's different from this one but the place as not a total disappointment though. I thought there'd only be fish and aquatic stuff and some house pets like hamsters and mice but there was a lot more. There was a bee sanctuary, a butterfly garden, a real garden, and a lot of different birds and animals. Here in this picture, Bea is buggin' coz there's a big blue peacock behind her.

Here Bea is pretending to be one of the broccoli plants. So cute. I think the kids really enjoyed coming here. Well, it was our first stop and they're energy level is still up. As we were leaving, there were people handing out goldfish for each kid to take home for free. Now this to me is genius. You give the kid a fish, and we know that some of them are not gonna have fish tanks at home yeah? So here we are, kids having their own little Nemo's, they're in love with this fish from the get-go, with nowhere to put them and nothing to feed them. So what does mommy do? She buys a fish tank and some fish food. Genius. The P35 fish we got for free but the tank and the food set me back P300. It's alright. Bea loved the fish and they even gave me my own goldfish too. Bea named them Dory and Dorky. Dory died a couple of days later. Dorky is hanging in there. What do you expect, I do not know the first thing about taking care of fish.

Next stop was the 3D Theater in SM North. This experience was the total opposite of what I'd expected. I expected the place to be a little SM Northy. You know, lotsa people, crowded, lotsa people. When we got there I was stunned. It was not the SM North that I remembered. The place was clean and fresh and the shops were better than the ones in Megamall. Now for the movie part, I thought we'd be watching some Disney movie they made into 3D. Wrong again. They showed some Safari bit with a girl driving a car and showing us the animals in Africa. I coulda just stayed home and watched it on The Animal Planet! The only good thing I can say about this stop is that it gave me a chance to rest up. I actually slept through it. Bea took a nap to, also her teacher and at least one other mom (she told me :D) Don't get me wrong, the theater was good, roomy and clean. It's just what they showed was crap.

We then set on for the La Mesa Dam Eco Park. Long Ride. I almost ran out of stuff to entertain my kid with. Good thing her friend Regina brought her DS. Bea played with it and shared with another girl classmate who didn't know the first thing about sharing.

We arrived at the park and started on the tour right away. It was a good place to go and our tour guide was very knowlegdable about the stuff she was touring us in. She added humor to the takling parts too so it wasn't boring at all.

In this photo Bea is holding a cultured worm. This is the dirtiest thing I ever let Bea hold. I know, I'm a little neurotic. She was really excited to hold it too. Volunteered right away to do it.

The tour went on and on. Except for the heat and all that climbing, it was fairly enjoyable. The trees were beautiful and the air is very fresh. It made you want to breath more because it's so fresh. Bea had a really good time here. She never gets to do things like this, not since she moved in with me. All we do now is go to the mall, go shopping, go see a movie. All things indoors. This was good for both f us.

For the most part, this trip was enjoyable. Enjoyable more than educational. Eventhough it's already Monday and I still feel tired from it, I'm glad we went. For Bea more than me. Here are a few more pictures...

This is me feeling the heat and the climb.

Behind me is the faux rice terraces.

This is the 107 step stair we climbed. Bea was a little tired after the climb don't you think?

Me and Bea waiting for the boat ride that wasn't meant to be. We never had the chance to get on it beacause we had to go if we wanted to avoid the traffic.

Mulan Jr at the Greenbelt Theater

My daughter had her first quarterly exams a week and a half ago. We studied furiously for two weeks as preparation. Furiously because a lot of times I bacame furious at her or she became furious at me! My daughter loves to study her lessons but I must have pushed so many buttons (or some wrong ones maybe) that we almost ended up in tears! My daughter is in Prep. Am I a bad mother??? Anyway, she did very well. And as a reward for her hard work, I decided to take her to the Repertory Philippines production of Mulan Jr. They are showing it at the Greenbelt Theater from August to December. As this is her first time to see a stage play, she is very excited. I invited my niece, Raine to join us. The more, the merrier. This afternoon I will go get our tickets. I must say I am very excited too.
